Police nab suspected cultist with pistol

A 25-year-old suspected cultist, who was allegedly arrested with a single barrel pistol, has been dragged before an Igbosere, Lagos, magistrate court on a five-count criminal charge.

The police on Monday alleged that the accused person, John Emegu, and others still on the run conspired on September 27, 2019 at about 10.30pm at Igbokusu community Lekki, Eti-Osa local government, Lagos, to commit felony by unlawfully possessing and displaying firearms, and belonging to an unlawful society.

Emegu was allegedly nabbed with one locally made single-barrel pistol with one cartridge and could not give satisfactory account of how he came about them.

The court was informed that the accused person and others still on the run on the same date, time and place paraded themselves as members of the Aiye Confraternity cult, contrary to Section 42 (a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Emegu, who pleaded not guilty, was admitted to bail of N500,000.

The magistrate, Aro Lambo, fixed further hearing for October 15, 2019.
