A statement by the command spokesperson, ASP Maryam Yusuf, said the suspect, who was a member of a notorious four-man carjacking gang was arrested by police detectives from Gwagwalada division during routine patrol.

She said the suspect confessed that the gang operates by disguising as stranded passengers to lure their unsuspecting victims.

According to her, exhibits recovered from the suspect include one blue Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 15 BK, one locally fabricated pistol and six rounds of live ammunition.

She said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

She further disclosed that four suspects were also arrested by the police operatives from Wuye division for robbing residents of their phones and hand bags.

She gave their names as Abdullahi Haruna, Naziru Nasiru, Sani Ibrahim and Umar Musa, saying the suspects were a four-man robbery gang terrorising Wuye axis.

“The suspects stated that they are responsible for snatching phones, bags, among others, along the stadium area,” she said.

She said exhibits recovered from the suspects are: red Golf car, four mobile phones, two sharp knives and three reflective jackets, adding that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.

Yusuf said the command also wished to reiterate the ban on the use of unauthorised covered number plates within the FCT, and violators would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
