According to him, he would have run away immediately he saw the police, but that he decided to wait since his 3-year-old son was with him in the bus.

According to him, he was taken to where the bus was parked that morning by Temidayo Akindekan and as usual, Temidayo started the bus with a master key and asked him to drive the bus to their car park at Iyana Ipaja.  Joseph, who is a driver at Iyana Ipaja, further told O’odua Trust that they did not use any weapon, “we only go to the area where the buses are parked, survey the area and come back very early the following morning to drive away the bus using our master keys.”

However, the 33-year-old Temidayo had a different story to tell. The suspect, who is a resident of Aboru, Iyana Ipaja told O’odua Trust that he never stole any bus. According to him, the bus he was driving before his arrest was sold to him, and the payment was to be made by instalment by one Kehinde (a.k.a. Baba Sagamu).

According to him, Kehinde bought the bus at Mile 12 at the rate N150,000 and repaired it with another N150, 000. He said, though he and Joseph were from the same town (Ondo State), he had never engaged in any kind of robbery with him. He said Olumide was only trying to rope him into what he knew nothing about.

O’odua Trust also visited the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba. According to him, the anti-robbery policemen on patrol from Sagamu Road Police Station accosted Temidayo Akindekun around 2 am last Friday while driving a Toyota Hiace bus. They initially suspected he was a child kidnapper since a 3-year-old infant was found in the bus he was driving. It was not until the process of investigation that they discovered the bus was a stolen one. It was through Olumide that other suspects who were involved were apprehended by the police.

Mba further told O’odua Trust that the gang was specialized in stealing buses. They would thereafter change the interior and painting before either selling it to unsuspecting buyers or use  it for commercial purpose.

According to him, four buses had been recovered from the suspects and their registration numbers are XG 469 ABJ, XA 549 MEK, XP 423 ABJ and XK 648 SMK. The police spokesman also told O’odua Trust that a police team has also been sent to both Ogun and Edo states to recover about 10 buses which the suspects had already sold to unsuspecting buyers in those states.
