The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested five people over alleged vandalism of armoured electrical cables and recovered stolen items.
A statement from the FCT police spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, yesterday said police operatives on patrol arrested members of a notorious syndicate that specialized in vandalizing armoured cables and other installations in the FCT.
He said Nafiu Zayanu, Yushau Kabir, Iliasu Abubakar, Ashiru Sani and Aliyu Usman, all of Dutse-Apo Pantaker Market were arrested around 3am on  August 25 at Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse II while vandalizing electrical cables belonging to the Abuja Electrical Distribution Company.
He added 87 pieces of electrical cables, a giant cutting machine and a red Golf 3 car with reg. no. AH 972 KRV were retrieved from them.
Manzah said operatives of the command while on patrol on  August 21 intercepted some hoodlums who were vandalizing some armoured cables at Maitama road-about by Yakubu Gowon House.
He said the suspects abandoned their car and the vandalized cables and took to their heels on sighting the police.
 Manzah said the Commissioner of Police had ordered the transfer of the suspects and exhibits to the Command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.
