The Kwara State Police Command says it has arrested a notorious cultist who had been on its wanted list.
The arrest came on the heels of killings by rival cult confraternities in Ilorin which heightened tension among residents.
The suspect, Monday Ojoagbu, was arrested at a popular supermarket on Unity Road, Ilorin, “during a mission with other members of his gang to carry out another gruesome attack on a target.
“In an attempt to arrest the suspect, while avoiding likely collateral damage in the supermarket, his other gang members escaped using customers as shields,” spokesperson of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi, said in a statement.
He said one locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspect while effort was on to arrest his fleeing accomplices.
