The Sokoto State police command has launched a special operation against political thuggery.

The operation, which was codenamed Kule Chas, involved other security agencies in the state.

The operation came in the heat of political thuggery, threat and counter-threat by political parties to protect their votes at all costs during the forthcoming elections.

The commissioner of police in the state, Useini Gumel, said security agencies would not allow the peace being enjoyed in the state to be derailed.

“We will arrest political thugs and their sponsors; anybody who comes to negotiate their release will also be arrested,” he said.

He warned that the police would use maximum force against anybody wielding weapons during the election.
