Police in Kano State said 72 out 663 thugs that repented from thuggery went back to crime carrying out criminal activities in parts of Dala and Kurnar Asabe areas of the state.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, said the police had noticed a new trend in criminal activities by some recalcitrant youths in Dala and Kurnar Asabe posing threats to the peace in the state and stability of the affected communities.
According to the CP, the modus operandi of the criminal gang is to create unnecessary unrest with a view to robbing people of their belongings, including phones and money.
Gumel said the police identified one Bahago Alfa of Kukar Bulukiya who was among 662 repentant thugs that returned to crime, noting that 71 of his followers robbed one Dan’azimi Dala Rijiya Biyu of the sum of N2 million and removed a golden ring from his daughter.

“It is declared that all security agencies, vigilante, PCRC and relevant stakeholders go after them, smoke them out from their hiding places and bring them to the police headquarters as soon as possible. We are resisting dining with the devil; they are enemies of peace and accordingly we declare these 72 individuals, enemies of the peace. There is no more repentance, as some of them were tested and found not to be trusted,” the CP said.
He, however, said 50 of the repentant thugs are assisting the police as Special constabulary, 50 are with federal fire service, 25 are volunteers with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and 25 are sanitation ambassadors working with Kano State government owned REMASAB.
The police commissioner assured residents that the force would build on the success recorded and ensure a safer environment for all, especially during yuletide.
