Police kill two over attack on personnel, bomb blast rocks Imo oil company

The Imo State Police Command said gunmen who attacked its personnel at a checkpoint in Oguta on Tuesday have been killed. 

The unidentified gunmen were said to have attacked the policemen at Okpo-Efi junction, Agwa Ejemekwuru road in Oguta local government area of the state. 

The gunmen were said to have cut off the manhood of one of the policemen after killing him.

The slain police officer, identified as Ukam Efut, was said to have been serving at Agwa Police Divisional Headquarters when he met his death while on patrol with two of his colleagues.

Ukam was shot dead and his penis was said to have been cut off by his killers, while one of the other two officers sustained wounds on his face.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Wednesday. He said police immediately arrived at the spot and engaged the gunmen in a duel.

Abattam said that two of the hoodlums were neutralised while others escaped. He added that the police were on the trail of the fleeing gunmen.

The Police Command also confirmed a bomb blast at an oil company in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Mike Abattam, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owerri, said it occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

Abattam said the explosion occurred at a facility operated by Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited.

He further stated that the Commissioner of Police in Imo, Mohammed Barde, has already deployed a squad from the command’s anti-bomb unit, as well as some of its operatives to the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

”It happened, there was a bomb blast this morning at the facility but the commissioner has deployed our men to the site,” Abattam said.

A witness who pleaded anonymity, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that two persons died in the explosion.

He said that the two middle-aged men were the carriers of the bomb, which exploded and killed them while they were trying to find their way into the flow station through the entrance.
