A police officer under the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), in Plateau State, has shot dead a truck driver around Vom area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
At the time of his death, the deceased Usain Adamu was a driver of an Indomie truck.
The spokesman of the Plateau State Police, Ubah Gabriel, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the affected police officer had since been arrested and detained, adding that investigation was ongoing in the matter.
The driver’s assistant who witnessed the incident said, “When we got to the checkpoint; that’s the revenue collectors’ station, we stopped. One of the policemen asked the driver to come down but the driver said he won’t come down because he had not carried anything and the container was empty. He asked the police to check the container if there was something inside. We told them (police) that the container was empty because we were heading to Port Harcourt.
“We asked him to even check the container to see for himself. He said we must come down and before we knew what was happening, the policeman on the other side shot him (the driver) on his head and he died.”
The father of the victim, Adamu Muhammed, who expressed dissatisfaction over the development, said he would never forgive the killer, saying he should not be allowed to go free.
He said, “He is my first son and the only child of his mother. He has been the breadwinner of the family. I call on the police authorities to, as a matter of fairness, ensure justice in the killing of my son.”
