Taraba State Police Command has said its operatives attached to Bali Division on Sunday killed three suspected kidnappers terrorising communities around Bali and Suntai in Bali local government area of the state.
The state’s police commissioner, David Akinremi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Jalingo on Monday.
He said operatives of the command attached to Bali division engaged a kidnap syndicate who have been terrorizing the area.
Akinremi further said that some of the bandits were fatally wounded when the operatives engaged them in a gun battle while attempting to kidnap some residents of a house in Garwa village
He said suspected kidnappers had held the entire village hostage adding that a distress call it received put the police on alert and acted quickly.
“The prompt response by the gallant operatives with the assistance of the men of the state’s Vigilante Group resulted in a shootout which led to the death of three of the hoodlums, while a member of the Vigilante Group sustained injury from the gun shots by the hoodlums.
He disclosed that one locally fabricated AK47 rifle, twelve rounds of .9mm ammunition, two GSM handset, a military camouflage, some criminal charms and knives were recovered from the gang.
The police commissioner also disclosed that other members of the criminal gangs however escaped with bullet wounds, adding that his men have embarked on manhunt to arrest the criminals.
He however called on members of the public to give useful information on criminal elements in their communities to security agencies.
