Police kill kidnapper, rescue Sokoto lawyer

One suspected kidnapper was killed and another injured as police rescued Barrister Rukayya Mustapha, a Sokoto lawyer abducted last week. Mustapha and Salim Abdussalam were taken from her residence in the Basin Runjin area of Sokoto.

Addressing the press on Thursday, Sokoto State police commissioner, Hayatu Kaigama, said on May 29, police operatives from the Yabo Division, in collaboration with the military and a vigilante group, acted on credible information to launch a rescue mission.

“The team arrived at the scene near the Binji axis and traced footprints leading towards a forest. The suspected bandits/kidnappers were located and confronted, resulting in the rescue of three victims,” Kaigama said.
