Police kill car thief, nab 3 cultists in Abuja

The FCT Police Command has shot dead a car theft suspect at NICON Junction, Abuja, after a gun duel with the three-man syndicate.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command ASP Maryam Yusuf, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, said the police responded promptly to a distress call by the car theft victim, tracked down the suspects and recovered the vehicle.

She, however, said that the three-man car snatching syndicate engaged the operatives in a gun duel, in which   one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to the hospital where the doctor confirmed him dead.

“And while the other two fled, exhibits were recovered including a black Toyota Corolla, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” she said.

Meanwhile, the command has also arrested a three-man cultism gang operating along Lungu axis of Galadimawa, Abuja, and recovered a locally made pistol.

She said the suspects were arrested by the police operatives from Galadimawa division during a routine patrol while preparing to attack some residents.

She said the suspected cultists have confessed to have also carried out several robbery operations within the city.

She gave the names of the suspects as James Oche, Promise Richard and Emmanuel Moses, saying exhibits recovered from them included one locally fabricated gun and one knife.

She said all the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
