Police kill 3 suspected bandits in Benue

The police in Benue State have killed three suspected bandits following intense gun battles in the Mbafyan area of Mbachir Council Ward and Tse Shenge in Ukum Local Government Area.

The recent police action comes in response to escalating violence by bandits in the Sankera region, including Kastina-Ala, Ukum and Logo LGAs, which had seen repeated attacks on local communities.

The latest incident involved the killing of 18 people in Mbachir Council Ward over the weekend, reportedly prompting the increased security measures.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the security forces have intensified operations in Sankera to combat the bandit threat.

“In the past week, the Operation Zenda JTF teams engaged bandits in Mbafyan, Kastina-Ala LGA, and Tse Shenge, Ukum LGA. During these operations, three suspected bandits were killed, while others were injured and fled into surrounding areas,” Anene reported.

She added that the police recovered several items from the bandits, including a Toyota Corolla, a Hummer Bus, a tricycle, 12 motorcycles, and three shotguns.
