Sunday Trust gathered that the clash occurred when the police came to make arrests at the village sequel to a mob action perpetrated against a suspected ritualist.

Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the suspected ritualist was sighted trying to convince a teenager to follow him on Sunday when the village market was holding. Upon seeing the development, the villagers and the market men gathered and lynched him.

Our reporter learnt that a couple of days after the incident the police arrived at the village and began to arrest some suspects. But the daring youths tried to free the arrested suspects on the grounds that they were innocent.

During the ensuing altercation, the police reportedly opened fire on them, killing one person and injuring many others.

Although unconfirmed reports said seven persons died during the clash, the Public Relations Officer of Kano Police Command, SP Baba Muhammed, said it was only one person that died during the clash.

The Police spokesperson added that the police were in routine raid in the criminal hideouts in the village when the villagers, in their bid to free the suspects from the police, attacked the police.

SP Baba said the police shot one person dead when the youths even went to the extent of torching some parts of the police outpost. He also refuted the assertion that the police made the arrest because of the mob action that occurred on Sunday.
