The police in Benue State on Thursday disclosed the killing of one suspect and the arrest of three others over the recent attack on Igama village in Okpokwu LGA.
Igama, an Idoma-speaking community, as well as two other communities in the area, was attacked on Sunday by gunmen who killed at least 15 people.
The Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Mrs Amina Audu, said a search was ongoing in the surrounding bushes by security personnel for missing persons and possible apprehension of the attackers.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the search, saying it had yielded positive results as operatives killed one suspect and made three arrests.
She said, “Police teams deployed to the area, in collaboration with other security agents, have been on cordon and search operation within the forest. On 15/6/2022 at about 0500hrs, the attackers who were trapped in the bush engaged the police in a gun duel that led to arrest of suspects in their hideout.
“One of the suspects by sustained injuries and was admitted at the St Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga, where he eventually died and the corpse deposited at the same hospital.
“Three other suspects are in custody for further investigation.”
