Rivers State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into the explosion that occured at a Port Harcourt-based radio/television station, the Wish 99.5FM on Tuesday.
Suspected arsonists had on Tuesday night threw an explosive device into the generator house and transformer area of the radio/tv station, damaging the generators, a 500kva transformer as well as a transformer feeder panel and electronic appliances in both the radio and television stations.
The station is owned by Hon. Chiyere Igwe, a member of House of Representatives and a strong supporter of Atiku Abubarkar in Rivers State.
Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) of the State Police Command have been deployed to the scene for swift and detailed investigation with a view to ascertaining the veracity of the information and to unravel what exactly caused the explosion.

Koko assured that the State’s police command would hunt down the culprits and make them to face the full wrath of the law if the incident was indeed orchestrated by anyone or group.
The police assured all residents of their safety especially at this period of electioneering, adding that it would leave no stone unturned in providing quality security for all persons residing in or visiting the State.
Igwe, in a statement said he had earlier informed the police command.
