Kano state police command said it has intercepted 189 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp valued at N6.6 million.
The command’s spokesman, SP Magaji Musa Majiya disclosed this in a press statement.
He said, on Sept. 22, base on tip-off, a raid was conducted at Tudun Wazirchi and Badawa Quarters in the state metropolis, and 189 parcels of Indian hemp were intercepted.
“The Indian hemp was concealed inside palm kernel shells to beat security operatives and hid its ordour,” he said.
Meanwhile, Majia said, operatives of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad attached to Kano state police command have arrested a fleeing team of armed robbers from Nassarawa state with a stolen vehicle.
He said the vehicle, a Mercedes ML350 with registration number ABC 554AY was stolen from Masaka, a slum in Keffi local government area of the state last Saturday.
SP Majia identified the four suspects as Kenneth Adam and Ali Jafaru two of whom were believed to be from the Masaka, while the two others Abdulkadir Shaka and Aliyu Audu are residents of Gunduwawa quarters in Kano metropolis.
“Information availed to the Command revealed that on 22/9/2018 at about 0100hrs a gang of robbers attacked a resident of Masaka town in Nassarawa state where they dispossessed him off valuables and a Mercedes ML350 Reg. No. ABC 554AY.
“On same date at about 16:30hrs having shared the coordinated information the Command’s detectives from FSARS intercepted the said motor vehicle along Hadejia Rd Kano, occupied by four men who were instantly arrested” the spokesperson said.
He added that investigation was in progress to arrest the remaining accomplices after which all the suspects would be charged to court.
In a related development, one Musbahu Usman aka Dangaja of Kofar Na’isa Quarters and Nura Hussain aka Lado of Jambulo Quarters have been arrested for allegedly attacking a bank customer dispossessing him of N500, 000.
Majia said the duo conspired and trailed their victim from a Bank after he had withdran the sum of N500,000.
Police spokesman said the victim was attacked while boarding a tricycle along Audu Bako Way.
He said the suspects carted away with the money and inflicted severe injuries on the victim before they were arrested and the money recovered.
