The Kano State Police Command has arrested four robbery suspects who were held hostage by a mob where they had robbed residents in the ancient city.

The command said it received a distress call that armed robbers broke into some houses at Maidile Quarters, Western bypass, Kumbotso LGA Kano State and robbed the residents of mobile phones and other valuables.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Samaila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by SP Buba Yusuf to arrest the culprits and recover the properties robbed.

“The team went to the scene and met one of the armed robbers trapped and attacked by the mob. He was rescued and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano for treatment and further investigations,” the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said.

He added that further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects from different locations in the state and that the command recovered the stolen properties and some weapons.

 “On discreet investigation, the suspect, Hussaini Hassan, 21, of Zoo Road Quarters Kano, led Puff Adder operatives to the arrest of their gang leader, one Ali Isah, alias Aljan, aged 39 of Tudun Murtala Quarters, Kano.”

“Two other members of the syndicate, Ismail JL, 42, of Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano and Rabiu Ibrahim, 38, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, were also arrested.

“The suspects were arrested with robbed properties, weapons and house breaking implements, and all have confessed to their offences. 

“They will be charged to court after completion of investigation,” Kiyawa said.
