The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Mustapha, has constituted an Eminent People’s Forum of residents of the territory to assist in crime prevention.
Inaugurating the forum in Abuja yesterday, he said the rationale was to involve members of the public in the task of policing.
“It was on this premise that the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, issued directives to all Commissioners of Police that we should constitute the Eminent People’s Forum in our respective commands. In compliance with this directive, I immediately instructed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the FCT to constitute the Eminent People’s Forum at their respective levels,” he said.
He said the initiative involved bringing together stakeholders and tapping from their wealth of experience.
He added that the constitution of the forum was part of measures to bring opinion leaders together to form a formidable team that will meet at intervals to brainstorm and come up with ideas and information that would help the police to serve FCT residents better.
Members of the forum include traditional rulers, retired senior civil servants, retired senior police and military officers, religious associations, the Miyetti Allah, market women associations, the Eggon ethnic group association, youth group associations and transporters’ associations.
