The police in Ogun State have arrested of a 29-year-old suspect, Philip Efosa, for allegedly snatching a car from an Uber driver at gunpoint in Lagos.
It was learnt that the suspect’s arrest followed a message received from police control room that a Toyota Corolla car was snatched by two armed men in Eleko area of Lagos.
The DPO, Ibafo Division of Ogun command, Abiodun Ayinde, reportedly led his anti-robbery team to the road where they laid ambush for the hoodlums.
It was further gathered that the operatives of the command went on a trail of the car and it was sighted along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
A statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the two occupants of the car jumped down and took to their heels but they were chased by the policemen and one of them was apprehended while the other escaped.
“On interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed that he and the escaped accomplice called the owner of the car who was using it for Uber service to take them somewhere but snatched the car from him at gunpoint with the intention of taking it to Ibadan to sell it,” he said.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has directed that the suspect and the exhibit be transferred to the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) for onward transfer to Lagos command where the crime was committed.
He quoted the CP to have appealed to members of the public not to delay in reporting any crime in their area to the police in order to quickly respond to such.
