Police are on the hunt for killers behind the assassination of a school head in Ogun state on Tuesday.
Mufutau Waliu, 35, head of electrical and electronics department of D S Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, was waylaid on his way out of the school on Tuesday and shot several times at close range.
The 35 – year – old lecturer was rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, where he was confirmed dead.
The Head of the Public Relations at the institution, Yinka Adegbite confirmed police have taken over the investigation.
Adegbite said the remains of the deceased was about to be buried as of the time of this report.
He said, “He closed from work [on Tuesday] as he was coming out from the campus, the report we heard was that he was waylaid by some gunmen. They shot him several times. When we heard we reported to the police.
“Off course we are yet to ascertain what happened. We have left the police to do their job. They will do their investigation normally and they will come out with their findings later.”
When contacted, the Spokesman of the Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi described it as a case of assassination.
He said the command has been begun hunting of the killers with a view to bringing them to book.
