In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Bello Kongtons, said the state Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, said the DPO was kidnapped on November 26.

“The DPO was en route Aghenebode in a private vehicle with his orderly, one Sgt Aliu who were both on mufti when they were accosted at Ekwuosor by hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers,” the statement read.

He said the armed men suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on their vehicle, forcing them to stop.

According to him, they whisked the officer into the bush while the orderly managed to escape.

The commissioner, however, enjoined the people to remain calm and go about their lawful business as the command is on top of the situation.
