Police in Benue State have killed two bandits after invading their criminal camp at Mbatyula Council Ward in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, said on Monday that the feat was achieved following continuous and intensified efforts by police operatives to clamp down on bandits on the Sankera axis of the state in the past three months.

She said several operations carried out led to the arrest of suspects while others were neutralised in the course of exchange of fire during which arms and ammunition had been recovered and many camps dislodged.

“As part of follow-up operations, Operation Zenda JTF invaded a criminal hideout at Tse Uza, Mbatyula Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area on 30/06/2024 (Sunday).

“Upon arrival at the camp, bandits engaged the police in a gun duel to resist invasion into their camp but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police team.

“Two of the bandits received gunshot injuries, they have been confirmed dead by a doctor, and corpses deposited at a general hospital in Ukum while other suspects escaped,” the police spokesperson said.

Anene listed exhibits recovered from the camps to include; two pistols loaded with ammunition, three locally made shotguns, 13 motorcycles, camouflage uniforms, six walkie-talkies, one Toyota Corolla and one tricycle.

She further said the Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Hassan Steve Yabanet, commended the bravery exhibited by the officers and enjoined the people of Sankera to avail useful information to the police about suspects at large who may be seen with gunshot injuries.
