Police go after killers of Ogun APC candidate

The police in Ogun State yesterday said it is hunting for the killers of one Adeleke Adeyinka, a candidate in the forthcoming local government election in the state.

Adeyinka was reportedly shot dead in broad daylight at the Jide Jones area, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Witnesses said the gunmen arrived in a tinted car and one of them alighted and shot Adeyinka at a close range and later smashed his head.

A 27 – second clip, which has gone on the internet showed the victim’s lifeless body lying in the pool of his blood.

A source said “The killing happened around 2pm. It took everybody by surprise. No one knows if it is a cult-related attack or not. The people in the area are already locking their shops. Everywhere is tensed up now. It is so sad.”

He was the candidate of APC for Ward 15, Abeokuta South LGA in the November 16 council polls.

Police spokesman, Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident, said the perpetrators of the crime, who came in an unregistered Toyota Corolla sport car fled the scene.

She noted that his corpse had been taken away for burial without examination or autopsy.

Odutola said, “A shooting incident and murder occurred around 12:30pm. The assailants opened fire, killing 40-year old Adeyinka Adeleke, who was left dead at the scene before the perpetrators fled to an unknown location.

‘’A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals, believed to be cultists arrived in a Toyota Corolla sport car, armed with a pump action shotgun and a pistol

‘’Another individual, Adesanya Adeyinka requested the body for burial without seeking a doctor’s examination or autopsy.

Odutola stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as investigation had commenced.’’
