Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have engaged some suspected robbers in a gun duel as they foiled a robbery attack on motorists near Gwagwalada on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manza, said police operatives were called by some motorists after some suspected armed robbers barricaded the highway.

He said the police later engaged the robbers in a shoot-out after the suspected robbers opened fire on sighting the police team, adding that the suspected robbers escaped with bullets wounds.

He said one of the robbery victims who sustained injuries during the attack by the suspected robbers, died after he was taken to a hospital in Gwagwalada.

Manza said one locally fabricated pistol and one cutlasses were recovered from the bush by the police operatives, adding that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing members.

He further disclosed that two suspected phone snatchers were arrested by the police operatives from Wuse police division following a complaint by some victims.

He said the suspects allegedly attacked their victims to a night club in Wuse, where they robbed two of them of their phones.

He gave the names of the suspects as Abdulmumin Kabiru and Sabiu Nasiru, adding that they would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
