Police teargas June 12 protesters in Lagos

Police have fired teargas canisters on June 12 protesters in Lagos amidst tension in the state as the nation marks Democracy Day.

Police had earlier in the morning taken over the protest venue at Gani Fawehinmi Park in a bid to prevent people from gathering.

But protesters defied police presence attempting to carry out the protest at the popular Freedom Park Ojota.

As of the time of filing this report, there was tension around the area as police fired teargas to disperse the protesters.

Elsewhere across the state, Daily Trust observed heavy police presence in many parts of Ikeja and its environs with armoured vehicles stationed at strategic locations including Allen Roundabout, Ikeja Under Bridge, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja GRA, among others.

Also, traffic situation in the metropolis is light as many people stayed home over the planned protest.
