The Edo State Police Command has denied involvement of its officer in the kidnapping incident on the Benin-Auchi road in Edo State.

A report making the rounds on social media alleged that the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Benjamin Benafa, in Ekhor, a community on the Benin-Auchi road, was arrested by special anti-kidnap team from the office of the Inspector General of Police over his involvement in kidnapping on the road.

But the police command in Edo described the report as mischievous, fabricated and misleading, and urged members of the public to disregard it, promising a thorough investigation into the matter.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Kontongs Bello, said there was no such unit called special anti-kidnap team in the office of the IGP.

“The report which is already going viral on various social media handles and platforms is totally the work of mischief makers aimed at tarnishing the image of the force and to incite the general public against the police, particularly Edo State Police Command.
