Police defuse bomb in Borno IDP camp

The Borno State Police Command said it has successfully defused a bomb planted by Boko Haram and its splinter group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), at the Dalori Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Konduga Local Government Area.

Daily Trust gathered that the bomb scare began at about 6am when an item concealed in a sack was spotted in the camp, causing the IDPs to abandon their shelters and flee.

The Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, who confirmed the incident during a press briefing at the police command in Maiduguri Monday, said the operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were immediately dispatched to the scene for disposal and evacuation.

CP Umar said, “An unidentified element suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted inside a plastic bucket with a panel close to the fence of the camp by suspected insurgents was discovered.”
