The police in Benue State have debunked an alleged huge recovery of naira notes at Wadata, a suburb of Makurdi, capital of Benue State.
Our correspondent reports that social media on Tuesday was awash with the alleged arrest of some persons caught with huge sums of money stocked in a warehouse.
The development caused a stir in the Wadata area as people trooped to the said house loaded with bags of currency notes to see things for themselves.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, described the social media news of the recovery of naira notes as “misinformation”.

Anene said, “On 13/12/2022 at about 1200hrs information was received at a police division in Makurdi that hidden naira notes were recovered from a police barracks in Wadata.
“Police detectives sent on investigation to the scene recovered wasted papers in a shop close to the Wadata Police Barracks. The owner of the shop, Mr Isah Suleiman, was invited for questioning and he tendered a licence issued to him by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for waste management. He added that the waste papers are usually gotten from CBN and processed into mosquito repellants. Investigation has been extended to the CBN for confirmation.”
