Police crack down on ATM fraud syndicate in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against cybercrime and related offences.

The State Intelligent Department (SID) apprehended three suspects – Sani Kasim, 35, Nura Umaru, 24, and Umar Suleman, 22, for being members of a criminal syndicate targeting ATM users in the state.

This was contained in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.

He said the suspects, who confessed to their crimes, used a tactic to trick unsuspecting customers into revealing their PIN numbers while using ATMs.

According to him, the suspects would offer to assist the customers, but swap their ATM cards and make withdraw cash from their accounts.

He added that the police recovered 47 ATM cards, four cellphones, and a Mercedes Benz car from the suspects.

He said six victims, including a visually impaired person, who lost N181,550, have identified the suspects.
