Police confirm 3 deaths as Fulani group alleges killing of members in Kwara

Members of the Gaan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), Kwara State chapter, have called on the state government and security agencies to address the killing of their colleagues in some parts of the state.

The state’s Chairman of GAFDAN, Alhaji Ali Mohammed Jounwiro, disclosed this while speaking with City & Crime in Ilọrin over the weekend.

He said, “Over 10 people were killed when youths and locals in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun LGA, attacked us and some members of Miyetti Allah. Several people were injured, including women and children, and more than 100 houses burnt with over N200m lost in the process.”

He attributed the attack to youths and locals of the town who “wrongly accused our kinsmen to be behind a POS robbery that led to the death of a woman in the community.”

He assured of the commitment of the association towards the peace and unity of the state and the country at large.

Several calls and a text message to the Commissioner for Communication, Bola Olukoju, were not answered or replied.

The spokeswoman of the state’s police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident during a telephone chat with city & Crime on Tuesday, said, “Only three deaths have been confirmed so far,” adding that, “Normalcy has returned to the area and the CP, Victor Olaiya, has urged for calm amid an ongoing investigation.”
