Police bust kidnapping, armed robbery syndicate in Imo

Operatives of the ‘Operation Puff Adder’ attached to the special anti robbery squad (SARS), Imo state police command, have arrested a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate, terrorising Umuapu and Obunugo communities in Ohaji Egbema local government area of the state.

The operatives were said to have stormed the area, acting on information.

One of the suspects, upon sighting the operatives, open fire on them but was disarmed and arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said: “On the 07/06/19, operatives attached to the command special anti robbery squad, SARS, while acting on intelligence report, moved to Umuapu and Oburugo communities both in Ohaji Egbema LGA, Imo state, and arrested five suspected kidnappers/armed robbers in connection with the incessant kidnap and armed robbery incidents along Owerri/Port Harcourt road.

He named the suspects as Ndubuisi Emmanuel ‘M’ 27years, Edi Precious 21’M’, Festus Opara ‘M’ 63, Frank Obijuru ‘M’ 27 and Blessing Opara ‘M’ 20 years of age.

He said that items recovered from them included three locally made pistols, 10 live cartridges and one Toshiba laptop.

Ikeokwu added that the suspects were being interrogated and would be made to face the law soon.
