Police begin manhunt of officers’ killers in Taraba

Taraba State Police Command has deployed its tactical team to arrest those responsible for the killing of two mobile policemen.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP David Misal, told Daily Trust that the tactical team was already in Takum and on the order of the state police commissioner to apprehend those responsible for the killing in Takum and also beef up security along all roads in the area.

Roads in the area have been coming under attacks by gunmen in recent weeks.

Daily Trust gathered that the two policemen were ambushed and killed at a checkpoint along Takum – Katsina-Ala road by gunmen.

This is bringing the number to four policemen killed and their weapons taken away by gunmen in recent weeks.

Further findings also revealed that no fewer than 17 persons were killed along Wukari – Takum road, Takum – Kashinbila road and Takum – Katsina-Ala road by gunmen within the same period.

A resident of Takum town, Mallam Maiwada told Daily Trust that about 54 persons abducted by gunmen were still being held and negotiation was going on with the abductors.

He said all the 54 persons were abducted along the three roads which are now unsafe for travellers.
