Police begin hunt for killers of 3 officers in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command Sunday said it has launched an investigation into the case of three of its officers killed at Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

Daily Trust gathered that the attackers who were armed with AK 47 stormed the police station in the area with two motorcycles and one tricycle.

The unknown gunmen also left another policeman with a serious bullet wound, set the station ablaze and freed inmates in the cell.

Again, not less than four vehicles parked at the station were also burnt by the gunmen.

The incident which took the policemen on duty by surprise, took place between 7:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday night.

It was further gathered that the hoodlums engaged the police in gun duel.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) DSP Loveth Odah, made this known on Sunday.

Odah, who said the command condemned such barbaric act, noted that investigations into the attack with a view to arresting and bringing the perpetrators to book has began.

She however urged the general public not to be afraid in providing the police with vital information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.

“The command has launched an investigation to apprehend the actors of this unholy Friday night act against three of our officers.

“We don’t know the killers nor their identity yet but we must get them.

“Also, we are calling on the general public with vital information to provide such to the police in order to hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Odah said.

Recently, Onueke has witnessed series of cult clashes in the area.
