Police arrest vandals at construction site

The Police have arrested five men over the alleged vandalisation of some materials belonging to the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), the contractor handling the construction of the Mile 2-Badagry expressway.

The vandals had allegedly stormed the construction site in connivance with some security men and loaded the items in a bus.

The vandals were on their way when they, unfortunately, ran into a team of policemen attached to Area E Command, FESTAC Town, Lagos.

Lagos State Police Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the policemen accosted the five suspects in a Ford Bus with Reg. Number FST 679 XZ, with some 25mm iron rods, property of CCECC between Volks Bus Stop and Iyana Iba, Lagos State.

He said the suspects allegedly offered a bribe of N500,000 to the police operatives who rejected the offer.

“The suspects include Lawal Saheed, 40, Taofeek Adenigba, 43, Ope Olowolayemo, 28, Azeez Jamie, 41 and Omotayo Adewale, 34.

“The items recovered from them are some pieces of 25mm iron rods, one Nozzle, one gas cylinder and Ford Bus with Reg. No. FST 697 XZ. The management of CCEC has been contacted by the police and identified the stolen items to be their property,” he said.

Adejobi further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the matter be thoroughly investigated and the suspects be charged to court as soon as possible.
