Police arrest suspected robber, arms dealers in Kaduna

The Police Command in Kaduna State said it arrested a suspected armed robber and two arms dealers, during a routine operation along the Kaduna-Kachia road in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Muri, confirmed the arrest in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Umar Jalige.

He said 11 guns, several magazines and bullets were recovered from the suspects.

“On October 14, at about 15:30hrs, operatives of the command on routine stop and search at Kwanta Shiru village, along Kaduna-Kachia road, arrested one Yakubu Maigida of Chibiya village, Kachia Local Government Area of the state.

”We recovered a locally made AK47 rifle concealed under his motorcycle with the view to evade the security.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect gave useful information on the source of the firearm.

”Subsequently, the operatives acted on the information, swung into action and arrested the arms dealer, one Daniel Buzu of Asako village in Kachia Local Government Area. “

He said the police recovered a single barrel rifle, one locally made pistol, two AK47 magazine, one cartridge and cash sum of N27, 000 from Buzu.

Muri added that the suspects had made useful statement on the whereabout of his accomplices.

He added that based on the information, the police arrested the second arms dealer, “one Obadiah Sabo of Zuturum Mago of Zangon Kataf area on Oct. 15, at about 15:20hrs.”

“The exhibits recovered from Sabo include, three locally made AK47 rifles, six locally made revolver rifles and two rounds of live AK47 Ammunition.

“The suspects are currently assisting the police with useful information and will be charged to court on completion of investigation.” he said.

Muri urged the people to always give prompt and useful information to the police, to aid in bringing crime to barest minimum in the state.

The commissioner also reassured the public of absolute confidentiality while acting on the intelligence provided.

He appealed to parents and guardians to be watchful of their wards due to the ongoing wave of protests across the country and desist from infringing on other people’s rights.

“We advise the people to be peaceful while making their voices heard as the command will not fold it’s hands and allow people break the laws,” Muri said.

He added that adequate personnel had been deployed to ensure the security and safety of protestors. (NAN)
