The Lagos State Police Command disclosed on Monday that it has been questioning two suspected members of an illegal cult group in Lagos, the Aiye confraternity, who were arrested when policemen swooped on cult members holding a meeting in a hotel in Shasha, allegedly on staging a reprisal attack on members of a rival group.
The arrested suspects were identified as Saburi Ojewole, 26, and Samson Olawale, 28.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, told Daily Trust on phone yesterday that a locally-made pistol was recovered from the suspects.
Elkana said that on July 23, 2020 at about 5.30pm, the Command received information from a credible source that some “dreaded cultists” armed with guns had been sighted holding a meeting in a hotel at the Shasha area of Lagos.
The PPRO said that operatives from the Shasha police station and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), acting on the information, swiftly mobilized to the hotel.
“On sighting the operatives, the cultists took to their heels in order to evade arrest, but were chased. In the process, two of them, Ojewole Saburi and Olawale Samson, were arrested.
“One cut-to-size locally made double- barrel gun, with four live cartridges, were recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects at large,” he added.
