Police arrest suspect who robbed traders of 64 bags of soybeans in Niger

The police in Niger State have arrested a 33-year-old suspected armed robber, Abu Abdulrahman of Mando area of Kaduna State who robbed traders of 64 bags of soya beans on their way from Kano to Lagos.

Parading the suspect at the Police Headquarters in Minna, the state capital, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested after a report of criminal conspiracy and robbery was after a report was lodged at Police Division in Mokwa town, the Headquarters of Mokwa LGA of the state.

He said the suspect, alongside his boys attacked a truck with Reg. No. KMC 613 ZR loaded with about 700 bags of soybeans from Kano, heading to Lagos, when it developed mechanical fault at Tunga-Ruwa village via Mokwa.

According to Abiodun, the robbers, armed with dangerous weapons came with  a J5 Peugeot vehicle with Reg No KJA 127 YC and tied the truck boys before offloading the 64 bags of soybeans into the J-5 vehicle.

He said the J-5 was intercepted by the police patrol team around Lafiagi in Mokwa leading to the arrest of Abu Abdulrahman while others escaped from the spot.

Abiodun said during the police interrogation, the suspect said they had a deal with the buyer of the soybeans in Kaduna, adding that the suspect mentioned one Adamu from Zaria and two others as gang members, presently at large.
