The Kano State Police Command has arrested one Binta Sulaiman, the stepmother to the 35-year-old man rescued on Sunday after 15 years of solitary confinement.

The suspect was arrested over complicity in the 15-year confinement of the victim as the police kept track of her fleeing husband, the biological father of the rescued victim.

Spokesman of the command DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said in a statement that the victim was confined to squalor for 15 years without proper feeding and healthcare.

He said the victim is currently responding to treatment at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Habu A. Sani, had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal and Intelligence Investigation Department for investigation.

The 35-year-old victim, Ibrahim Lawan was rescued at Sheka Quarters, Kumbotso local government area of the state.
