Police arrest robbers, cultists, gun-runners

The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday paraded 12  suspected armed robbers and cultists with dangerous weapons.

The state police spokesman, DSP Adewale Osifeso, who disclosed this in Ibadan on Sunday, said the suspected robbers and cultists responsible for strings of kidnapping, gun-running, rape and robbery in Oyo town were among the suspects.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that those arrested all belonged to the infamous Eiye Confraternity and were on a quest to establish supremacy in the axis.

He gave the names of the suspects as Abass Kamilu aka Shawama, Basit Azeez, Aworonke Asimiyu, Olalekan Moruf, Rasheed Taiwo, Quadri Raheem, Wasiu Lekan, Salaudeen Ridwan, Mustapha Abass, Jimoh Afeez, Habeeb Idowu aka Galaxy, Bello Jamiu aka Aroba.

Osifeso said among the exhibits recovered from them were; amulets, catapult, weed suspected to be Indian hemp, two single barrel cut to size pistols, one double barrel cut to size gun, locally-made revolver, two live and one expended cartridges, one black locally made pistol and red charm attached to the amulet.

He said; “Ibrahim, leader of a two-man syndicate whose mode of operation was to deposit counterfeit naira notes with unsuspecting Point of Sales (POS) operators and then withdraw from another in close proximity through the help of his partner, ran out of luck last Wednesday as the 98 pieces of a thousand naira notes deposited were immediately discovered.

He was immediately apprehended while his partner took to his heels after endlessly waiting for a credit alert on his handset.”
