Police arrest pro-Biafra agitators

Many members of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and its sister group, Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) were yesterday arrested by the police during the groups’ rally.

Our correspondents report that no fewer than 50 were arrested in Ebonyi State, 40 in Enugu and 46 in Cross River.

Speaking, Mr. John Nwifuru, who is the leader of BIM in the state, said that the rally was successful. 

In Anambra, MASSOB-BIM members shut down commercial activities in Onitsha, Anambra State to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the movement.

The body, led by Chief Ralph Uwazurike, also marked the re-declaration of Biafra and hoisting of its flag at Aba, Abia state on May 22, 2000.
