A PDP chieftain in Kebbi State, Chief Emeka Okafor, has been arrested by security operatives and taken to Abuja, the state’s police spokesman, DSP Nafiu Muhammed, has disclosed. He said Chief Okafor, a hotelier, was arrested over vote buying. But the state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Saidu Haruna, said at a press briefing that Okafor was arrested because he refused to leave the PDP.
“Over the months he had been under serious pressure to leave the PDP but he refused. He is a philanthropist and man of the people. We condemn his arrest a few hours to the elections,” he said.
“But they told us he was arrested because people were gathered at his residence,” he added. He said the party had instructed its lawyers to take up the matter and had petitioned the police.
