Police arrest officer in viral video extorting money from road user

The Edo State Police Command has arrested an officer, Victor Oshabuohign, caught in a viral video extorting money from one Arc Bolu in Benin city.

Speaking with journalists in Benin, the command’s deputy spokesperson, Jenifer Iwegbu, said the officer in the viral video has been arrested and undergoing investigation.

“The attention of the command has been drawn to an online video making the rounds on Twitter where police personnel was seen engaging in an extortion conversation with a road user identified as Arc Bolu on the social media platform.

“The officer with no F/No 524971 PC Victor Oshabuohign, the Police Constable in the viral video, has been arrested, detained, and is currently undergoing investigation,” she said.

She said the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, has set up an ad-hoc committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, ACP James Chu, as part of efforts to checkmate all cases of official corruption of officers, investigate and met out relevant disciplinary actions on erring officers.
