Police arrest officer caught assaulting woman in viral video

The Edo State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, has ordered the arrest of one of its officers caught assaulting a woman in a viral video in the state.

The commissioner also ordered that an orderly room be set up against the officer by the special marshal.

The officer identified as Sgt Samuel Imakor, attached to Iruekpen Police Station, Edo State, was seen in the viral video slapping the woman identified as Mercy Ajayi.

The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabizor, said the officer, who was arrested and brought to the commissioner for debriefing, confessed to slapping the young woman identified as Mercy Ajayi.

“The officer later advanced his defence against the young woman on the fact that she slapped him first in the vehicle during the process of her arrest,’’ the PPRO said.

According to him, the erring officer also alleged that the woman was arrested in connection with the offence of stealing human hair from a hotel department.

Chidi said the commissioner had ordered his arrest and set up an orderly room trial against him by the command’s provost marshal.
