The police in Kaduna State yesterday arrested some manufacturers of illegal arms in the Southern senatorial zone of the state.
Parading the suspects at command headquarters in Kaduna, the Commissioner of Police, Shehu Usman, said the suspects arrested were producing arms and ammunition which they were supplying to criminal gangs.
He said detectives attached to the area command in Kafanchan on intelligence report raided some premises in Kaura and Zangon Kataf and discovered 37 locally made pistols, 11 revolvers and 34 single barrel guns.
“The suspects in their various arms factories in Southern Kaduna area, manufactured and supplied arms and ammunition to criminal elements operating there”, he said.
The suspects include Isah Yahaya, Zamari Peter and Baye Tswan, all of Mabushi in Kaura LGA and Felix Paul of Samaru in Zangon Kataf. Items recovered include; 4 manual drilling machine, 6 electric drilling machine, 3 gas cylinders, 2 dane guns, 1 7.62mm ammunition, 3 5.56mm ammunition, 2 tiger power generators, a box containing different parts of locally made pistols/rifles and a tool box for the fabrication of rifle parts.
The police also paraded another suspect who they said specialized in printing fake identity cards and documents of different organisations.
