Police arrest man for raping girl in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested one Stanley Obodo from Delta State for allegedly raping an 18- year- old girl in Benin, Edo State.

It was gathered that after the rape at the guest house, where the suspect lodged, the vagina of the girl started swelling and she was admitted at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, said the father of the victim reported at the Ologbo police division that  sometimes in March, one Obode Stanley God’sprofit (24), who is a family friends met his daughter  on the way and took her to a guest house at Idogbo where he lodged in one of the rooms.

“The suspect then mixed some substance and gave her to drink, at this time she slept off and when she woke up the next day, she discovered her private part swollen and the suspect was no longer there. 

Dankwara said the police took the victim to University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she is currently on admission, adding that the suspect has been arrested, made statement and confessed to the crime.

Speaking with journalists, the suspect denied raping the victim as well as using any substance on her. 

“I did not rape her, she is my girlfriend, sometimes in April, I invited her over to my lodge in Benin. We had direct sexual intercourse and she aware of everything we did.

“Last week, her family called me through my friend, I know the girl and arrested me, saying I use their daughter for money ritual and that after our intercourse, she started having swollen breast and virginal.

“I am in shock that her virginal is swollen, I didn’t use any substance on her and I didn’t use her for any ritual and thank God is responding to treatment.”
