Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two lovers, Emmanuel Nworie (20) and Gladys Omoruyi (40) with five bags of Indian hemp in Ologbo community in Ikpoba-Okha LGA.
The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabizor, said the suspects were arrested on February 9, following a tip-off that a house occupied by the suspects was loaded with large quantities of weeds suspected to be hemp.
In a related development, the police arrested four suspects, Otete Emmanuel, Onya Ndubisi, Oliver Sodenyi and Okuru Benedict, for vandalising an Airtel mast and stealing six batteries worth N12 million on Benin-Agbor Expressway, Benin City.
Nwabizor explained that the suspects who wore green reflective jackets in their Toyota Hilux with registration number: EPE 328 HY, were arrested at the Imorta Filling Station.
He said the suspects and their van were searched but that nothing incriminating was recovered from them following a distress call from one Robert Daniel to the Okhuaihe Division that he saw them stealing six batteries that were worth N12m from the mast site.
He added that, “Though the suspects made statements and denied the allegations and any involvement in the incident, investigation on the matter has commenced.”
