Police arrest kidnapper of Ogun journalist

The police in Ogun State have arrested a 41-year-old man, Temidayo Oladimeji, one of the suspects who allegedly kidnapped a journalist at the Mobalufon area of Ijebu Ode in March.

The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Tuesday, said Oladimeji was arrested following an intelligence-based investigation embarked upon by SP Taiwo Opadiran who led his men to the suspect’s hideout.

However, the police in Obalende Division traced the kidnappers to the Idimu area of Lagos, where they engaged them in a gun battle.

According to Oyeyemi, at the end of the encounter, the kidnappers escaped with gunshot injuries and abandoned their victim and his car.

He said, “Having rescued the victim, the Commissioner of Police, CP Frank Mba, ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, and in compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team embarked on technical and intelligence-based investigation which led to the arrest of Temidayo Oladimeji who was the one detailed to guard the victim in the bush while the two others were waiting for a ransom.

“Immediately he discovered that his other colleagues had been injured, he abandoned their victim and ran away.

“Luck however ran against him when he was traced to his hideout in Ijebu-Ode where he was apprehended.”

He said a locally made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect.
