Police in Anambra discovered a decomposing body in a room with a man believed to be her husband, and he had no idea how the incident occurred.
The discovery was in Amawbia, Awka south local government area after neighbours reported unusual odour oozing out of the room of one Ikechukwu Atansi. At Chimas House, Ezimezi, and reports that flies were “hovering all over the premises.”
Police forced the door open and found the decomposing body of a woman later identified as Uchechi Atansi, 31.
Police spokesperson Haruna Mohammed said detectives found marks of violence on the body and blood stains in the room.
The husband of the deceased, Ikechukwu Atansi, 49, was inside the room when police forced the door open and could not give a clear account of events in the lead up to the discovery, police said.
He claimed unknown persons had injected him with some substance, and may have killed his wife.
He was placed under arrest.
