Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested a suspected gun-runner, Ikechukwu Didi, and recovered seven automatic short pump action rifles and 1,000 live cartridges from him.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Benneth Igweh, who stated this while parading the suspect before newsmen at the command in Abuja on Friday, said he was arrested by operatives of the anti-car theft on June 7 at Dutse Junction. He also disclosed that the police operatives have arrested a trans-border armed robber, Mubarak Kabiru Niamey, a citizen of Niger Republic.

He said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received from one Dr Ade Akinfolu who reported that five gunmen accosted him at the entrance of his residence at Utako, Abuja and snatched his black Lexus SUV jeep with registration number AA 363 FU.

He said the vehicle and a network jammer were later recovered from the suspect in Kaduna State, adding that the suspect confessed to being a trans-border receiver of stolen vehicles.

He added that one Chukwuemeka Udeke, a resident of Byazhin in Kubwa was also arrested for disappearing with a company’s Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number KWL 193 FX.

According to him, the suspect was arrested following a report from one Eclath that the suspect, who was a staff of a company, was asked to go and refill the vehicle with fuel, but that the suspect was trailed and arrested in Lagos State.
